What the hell is “The Philippines Project?”
It is something I just made up to be cool! Well, maybe not. If I had to describe what The Philippines Project is I would say that it (I) am a work in progress.
I read a new blog the other day by Mars Dorian. It is called Spreading your Influence. It is an interesting work about getting what you want out life, no matter what you have to do. I am not trying to summarize his blog, you can go there if you want and I am sure you would learn something.
He had a post about re-inventing yourself. I have heard this phrase for the last few (10) years and thought it was a little Opra-ish for my taste but I read his post just the same. When you first think of someone “re-inventing themselves” it brings to mind someone in tights who just stepped off of a yoga mat with a green smoothie in their hand extolling the virues of raw Vegan ism. Maybe someone else who is trying to be anything else besides the person that they really are.
Bear with me for a moment while I finish the rant. All that being said Mars had an excellent point about maybe you shouldn’t settle for where you are right now. He endorses the practice of pretending to be the person who you would most like to be!
I thought about the person I have become over the last 10 years and realized that I had already re-invented myself. I am 49 years old, divorced about 10 years ago. I always lived a cookie cutter life and tried to please everyone but myself. Traditional all the way and tried with back flips included (jumping through hoops of fire was strictly optional) to live an acceptable, dependable, delusion ally boring life and yes, live up to everyone elses expectations!
That template is a load of crap I tell you!
There is a voice deep down inside you (YES YOU FREAKIN HEAR IT!!!) that will guide you to the place where you will be connected to that infinite force to guide you to places that you have never been. Ignoring that voice is a sure bet to fulfill a life of milk toast existence and put you on the road to shoehorning your self into a size 5 life with size 13 dreams!
Where am I going with this you say?
Here I was, recently divorced, a failure by my standards looking for some hope in the midst of the mess that was my life. There was a plan laid out for good that I had not discovered yet.
Since that time I have traveled to Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and yes, you guessed it the Philippines! I finally made some sense out of my purpose and got down to living. Did I quit my job, grab a backpack, forgo showers and travel the world? No! Did I have Daddy’s trust fund, or recieve money from some well meaning benefactor? Hell no! It was just the dream. The voice that kept calling all those years that I always shut down. It was the feeling deep inside that my life was not meant to be just another 40/40 stat (40 hours a week X 40 years) just hoping that when I retired I would have enough life left in me to enjoy a few (golden years).
Well I built this site because I believe that I can accomplish anything that I want to in life. I have had a blast since I started blogging. I have put out my own website, I have found focus in my life and direction to lead me to the place that I really want to be.
I have been able to meet some amazing people, network globally and learn exponetially. Have I arrived? Hell no! But I am on my way! How would that feel for you?
I did not even own or know how to operate a computer back in the day. I only learned after my divorce. I am not that tech savy right now. The only thing you have to know is that you want to change your life right now and begin a journey that will take you places that you have never been.
You might say “I couldn’t do that”. I am here to tell you that you are only limited by your imagination!
